Cover Reveal: Other Side of the Game
Amanda Parris’s debut play is coming soon and we have the gorgeous cover!
Other Side of the Game is a striking and moving play about black women, how they support their incarcerated loved ones, how they organize communities and lead battles against institutions. Amanda is a unique and inspiring writer, and her debut is not to be missed.
The book comes out May 14, but while you wait, we have the dynamic and commanding cover with art by Alexis Eke.
About the cover, Amanda says, “Is it weird to say that you’re a bit in love with the cover of your own book? I’ve been a fan of Alexis Eke and her striking portraits of Black women for some time. The image that Alexis conceptualized for the cover of Other Side of the Game is both haunting and beautiful. I’m amazed at how much of the tension and sadness within the play she has been able to convey through such simple shapes and with a minimal colour palette. I hope that new readers will be as entranced by this cover, and those eyes behind the bars, as I am.”
Cover artist Alexis Eke says, “Other Side of the Game highlights the struggles of black women and their demand to be heard. My goal was to solemnly illustrate a black woman exhibiting strength and vulnerability. With this story taking place around prisons, creating prison bars with an “illusion-like” twist was an important detail I wanted to add in the cover.”
Excited? So are we!
If you're in Toronto, come celebrate the launch of the book with a reading by Amanda at A Different Booklist on Tuesday, May 21st.
