(1941–2000) was born Carol Johnson, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Educated at the University of British Columbia, she was a successful and prolific playwright, who was also one of the founders of the Playwrights Guild of Canada (formerly Playwrights Union of Canada). She was president of the organization at least twice, and chaired many of its committees over the years. Bolt’s work includes Buffalo Jump (1972), Gabe (1973), Pauline (1973), Red Emma, Queen of the Anarchists (1974), and One Night Stand (1977).
In addition to her work for adults, Bolt also wrote several plays for children, including My Best Friend is Twelve Feet High (1972), Cyclone Jack (1972), Maurice (1975) and Finding Bumble (1975). In 2008, Playwrights Canada Press will publish a collection of Bolt’s work to be edited and with an introductory essay by Dr. Cynthia Zimmerman, York University.
