The End of Pretending

The End of Pretending is a play about one summer in the lives of two fifteen-year-old girls. Charlotte is witnessing the death of a parent, while struggling to hide it from herself and her best friend, Emily, who is staying with Charlotte’s family for the summer. Emily is in a constant state of confusion with the facade of normalcy. In a summer of pretending, they find comfort in creating a play about the lives of Charlotte and Emily Bronte. The worlds they create force them to confront their secrets. They also deal with the prosaic problems of boys, parties, drinking and self-image.
