Oonagh Duncan
Oonagh Duncan
is a drama graduate of Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, and received
her MA in Acting from East 15 Acting School in London, England. While
there, she created her first verbatim play, The Outsider, as
her thesis project. The Outsider
examines local attitudes about changing demographics in an Essex, England
town represented by the anti-immigration British National Party.
Upon returning to Toronto
in 2005, Oonagh founded Oyster Productions. The company’s mandate is
to “tell stories to explore our community and expand our world.”
Oonagh’s second verbatim play was the critically acclaimed Fringe
2007 hit, Talk Thirty to Me, which examines the coming of age
of twenty-nine-year-olds in an era of extended adolescence. Talk
Thirty to Me has gained national media attention and has subsequently
been presented in London and New York.
Oonagh is currently
working on a verbatim follow-up to Talk Thirty to
Me, about turning sixty. She is also collaborating on a play based
on the court transcripts of the 2005 refugee hearing of American
war resister and conscientious
objector Jeremy Hinzman.
