Maja Ardal
Maja Ardal was born in Siglufjordur
in the north of Iceland in 1949. She received her education in Edinburgh,
Scotland, and studied drama at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and
Drama in Glasgow. She came to Canada in 1970 and acted with Toronto
Workshop Productions in 10 plays. She regards George Luscombe
as her first mentor, and in turn was awarded the George Luscombe Award
for Mentorship in 2002.
Maja was Artistic Director of Young People’s Theatre from 1990 to
1998. A translation of Midnight Sun was produced in Akureyri,
Iceland in the spring of 2001. Maja wrote the book for the musical
Joy with composer Joey Miller. It was produced at the Workman Theatre
in October 2000.
Maja has taught at the University of
Toronto, the National Theatre School, Humber College, Fanshawe College,
Tarragon Theatre, and continues to offer various workshops for youth
and teachers.
