Colleen Wagner
Colleen Wagner was born in Alberta and studied at the Ontario College of Art and at the University of Toronto. Her first play, Sand, was on the final shortlist for best international play at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, England, in 1989. She won the 1996 Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama for her play, The Monument, which continues to be produced internationally and is translated into half a dozen languages. Other stage credits include Eclipsed and The Morning Bird (published by Scirocco Drama), which was translated into French and toured New Brunswick in 2005. down from heaven premiered in Montreal in 2009 and was nominated for a MECCA award for best play. Home premiered in Halifax in 2010. She has written a number of screenplays, including an adaptation of The Monument. Current projects include a new play, and a new screenplay. She teaches at York University and divides her time between a farm in New Brunswick and Toronto.
