    Don Hannah

    Don Hannah is a playwright and novelist who lives in Toronto and Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. He was the inaugural Lee Playwright-in-Residence at the University of Alberta where he wrote While We’re Young. In 2008, he directed his play There is a Land of Pure Delight at Live Bait Theatre in New Brunswick. As a dramaturge, he has worked with playwrights from across the country, and for five years was on the faculty of the Banff Playwrights Colony. His books include Shoreline, a collection of his plays, and the novel, Ragged Islands, which received the Thomas H. Raddall Atlantic Fiction Prize. Learn More

    Asha Jain grew up in New Delhi, India. Upon completion of her master’s degree in 1973, she married and immigrated to Canada. While supporting her husband, Ramesh, in founding his own business, she raised two boys, Anurag and Ravi. She is a wonderful mother, wife, and now a very funny actor.     Hugh Hazelton

    Hugh Hazelton is a Montreal writer and translator who specializes in the comparison of Canadian and Quebec literatures with those of Latin America. He has written four books of poetry and translates from Spanish, French and Portuguese into English; his translation of Vétiver, a book of poems by Joël Des Rosiers, won the Governor General’s award for French-English translation in 2006. He is a professor emeritus of Spanish at Concordia University in Montreal and former co-director of the Banff International Literary Translation Centre. In 2016 he received the Linda Garboriau Award for his work on behalf of literary translation in Canada. Learn More

    Caroline Howarth

    Caroline Howarth is a founding co-director of Concrete Theatre and has directed many projects, including the Sterling Award-winning The Shape of a Girl and the Sprouts New Play Festival for Kids for the company. She is a theatre instructor at Concordia University College of Alberta where she teaches acting, directing, and theatre for young audiences. Caroline also works in opera as a singer and director and is currently a graduate student in the new M.F.A. Theatre Practice program at the University of Alberta. Learn More

    DD Kugler

    DD Kugler, a Vancouver-based freelance dramaturg/director in theatre and dance, was the first Canadian president of the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA, 2000–2002). He served eight seasons as Production Dramaturg with Toronto’s Necessary Angel Theatre (1985–1993), five seasons as Artistic Director of Edmonton’s Northern Light Theatre (1993–1998), and has taught for the past ten years in the Theatre Area at Simon Fraser University’s School for the Contemporary Arts. Kugler adapted Marc Diamond’s Property, and (in collaboration with Richard Rose) co-authored Newhouse, as well as the adaptations of Michael Ondaatje’s Coming Through Slaughter, and Timothy Findley’s Not Wanted on the Voyage.     Catherine Hernandez

    Catherine Hernandez is an award-winning author and the artistic director of b current performing arts. Her plays include The Femme Playlist, Singkil, Eating with Lola, Kilt Pins, and Future Folk. Her published works include M is for Mustache: A Pride ABC Book (Flamingo Rampant) and the novel Scarborough (Arsenal Pulp Press), winner of Asian Canadian Writers’ Workshop Emerging Writers Award and a finalist for the Toronto Book Award. She is a proud citizen of Scarborough, Ontario.

    Matthew Heiti

    Born and living in a meteor crater in Northern Ontario, Matthew has a BFA in acting and an MA in creative writing. He is the author of a novel, The City Still Breathing, as well as several plays. He is currently playwright-in-residence with Pat the Dog Theatre Creation.

    Ric Knowles

    Ric Knowles is a freelance dramaturge and University Professor Emeritus at the University of Guelph. He is the award-winning author or editor of 20 books on theatre and performance, including Fundamentals of Directing, Judith Thompson, The Masks of Judith Thompson, ‘Ethnic,’ Multicultural, and Intercultural Performance (with Ingrid Mündel), The Shakespeare’s Mine, Asian Canadian Theatre (with Nina Lee Aquino), Staging Coyote’s Dream (2 vols, with Monique Mojica), and Performing Indigeneity (with Yvette Nolan). He is also founding editor of Critical Perspectives on Canadian Theatre in English and New Essays on Canadian Theatre. Learn More
  9. Tom Hendry

    Tom Hendry

    Tom Hendry was born in Winnipeg in 1929 where he founded the Manitoba Theatre Centre in 1958. He was the first literary manager at the Stratford Festival in 1969 and 1970. In 1971 he co-founded the Playwrights Co-Op, now the Playwrights Guild of Canada. He also served as co-founder and head of the Banff Playwrights Colony from 1974 to 1976 and since 1985 has been a consulting policy director for the Ontario Arts Council. His play, Fifteen Miles of Broken Glass (1975) won a Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Medal. Tom Hendry lived in Toronto for over 25 years. He passed away in 2012. Learn More

    Hiro Kanagawa

    Hiro Kanagawa is a Vancouver-based actor and writer. His distinctions include Jessie Richardson Awards for both acting and writing, an Asians on Film award, and numerous other nominations. Although best known as an actor, he was a story editor on several critically-acclaimed Canadian television series: Da Vinci’s Inquest, Da Vinci’s City Hall, Intelligence, and Blackstone. His plays Tiger of Malaya and The Patron Saint of Stanley Park have been performed across Canada. His most recent play Indian Arm received the 2015 Jessie Award for Outstanding Original Script.
